Welcome
The SIVSS project is a cross-european collaboration aiming to develop enabling technology for error-resilient representation, slicing, storage and handling of rich audio-visual signals. We are specifically focused on providing a revolutionary communication and storage infrastructure with a throughput scaleable from tens of GB/s (Gigabytes per second) to Tb/s (Terabits per second) at a new threshold of cost effectiveness. The revolutionary design concepts will be useful to lower the barrier to entry for the creator, provider and consumer of rich media services. The new architecture is particularly well suited to the emerging markets utilizing rich media data streams such as mass access content distribution and streaming video security applications.
This project brings together some of the European leaders in storage and video technology to collaborate together for the first time in joint development activity. The multi-disciplinary team has the necessary storage, networking and video technology, design and research skills together with video server integration and marketing skills to achieve the goals. This will allow the project to achieve the necessary balance between market pull and technology push. All the partners have a proven track record for the delivery of technology in their specialist fields.
